*The following information relates to macro-dosing but consider it useful information. Please note, our Minum formulas are profoundly supportive and powerful but not intended for macro-dosing.
Those who seek communication with psychoactive fungi should have a healthy respect for what they enter into.
Sacred mushroom medicines deserve respect. They often teach hard lessons to those who approach them without due care and attention. The nature of this work requires a reverent approach and careful consideration. There are no bad trips, just ill-prepared psychonauts.
Psilocybin mushroom ingestion can lead to experiencing raw and emotionally vulnerable states. For this reason, set and setting is of utmost importance (especially in the larger dose explorations)! Safety and the perception of safety are both important and require careful planning:
- Ensure no unexpected visitors are coming by.
- Turn off electronic devices, avoid candles unless journeying with a sitter and create a space worthy of your journey.
- Utilize low lighting.
An expressed intent can help facilitate a beneficial journey. Take time to plan your experience well. It will pay off tremendously in the end (especially on the day).

Prepare by disengaging in media as much as possible in the days leading up to your experience. Start to quiet the mind and unbusy yourself in the hours approaching ingestion. 6-8 hrs of fasting will ensure a cleaner experience with less gastric effects which can be bothersome for some people. Weather permitting, a nice stroll in the forest beforehand can bring a sense of connection to this process as well.
Like journaling, meditation and introspective practices can properly prepare you for the task at hand.
When doing deeper work like this, find a nice long unobtrusive playlist of gentle sounds/tones. It’s best to choose music with little or no lyrics to avoid being distracted by them. Tibetan throat singing and devotional music are often employed for journeying. Binaural beats are also used for this purpose. More advanced students may wish to try Terrence McKenna’s recommendation of 7.5 – 10 grams with no music in the dark (perhaps don’t go that one alone).
Eye shades can be used to limit the experience ‘out there’ allowing for a more introspective/inward experience. Ideally, the participant should be laying comfortably on a bed or couch while ensuring all other needs are taken care of prior to take off. This is best done with a ‘sitter’ to ensure a safe and secure ‘trip’. This sitter should have experience with entheogens and some may wish to take a concurrent micro-dose or minum (.1 gram of psilocybin) in order to match frequencies of the journeyer but this largely depends on the facilitator. It is not recommended they match the dose.

“Grab the comfy blankets and get cozy!”
- Who you choose to let into your *entheogenic* work space will have a tremendous effect on your work, therefore choose wisely.
- Keep numbers small. The energies or group dynamics in the room play heavily into the experience and effect the work being done.
- Working in pairs or groups of three is a nice intimate and manageable size unless working with a facilitator.
- If you don’t feel you could bare your soul to anyone in the room, you need to rethink your journey group.
- Choose people you have rapport with… people you communicate easily with. This will come in handy during the ‘come-down’ integration period.
Once the effects have leveled out, begin to share when all parties seem back in the room. This can be incredibly insightful and often proves to illuminate the fact that the transfer of non-local consciousness is absolutely possible. People can have shared experiences! Within two days of journeying, write as much as possible about what transpired. Like a dream, it will quickly slip into the unconscious and be difficult to recall.
Remember, practice using intent, program the experience by thinking critically about the selection of fellow travelers, safety of location, security, and no interruptions or outliers (you’ll really love yourself if you stock up on easy snacks and treats for afterward too). Some of our favorites are:
- Chocolate (good quality is important, coconut sugar sweetened is ideal)
- Fresh melon, berries, a juicy fruit of your choice.
- Pre-prepared herbal tea.
- Your favorite strain of cannabis (if you roll like that).
- Hash? We think so. Great for integration and analysis (for the advanced traveler—this can bring back the effects of the mushroom—proceed with caution)
Remember brave explorers, you can always add but never subtract. It’s about the journey, not the destination. Journey well, and journey smart.
